  1. A cro-magnon is a prehistoric human believed
  2. to be ancestral to Europeans, the first 
  3. skeletons of which were found in 1868 in the
  4. Cro-Magnon cave near Les Eyzies, in the 
  5. Dordogne region of France. They are thought
  6. to have superseded the NEANDERTHAL people of
  7. the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and Asia 
  8. about 40,000 years ago.
